Balance2Center FAQ

What can I expect during a session?

During a session you will typically be laying on your back fully clothed, on the massage table.  You are relaxing on the table as I am holding acupressure points or utilizing other healing modalities.  I may guide your focus to your breathing, an awareness of your body, places of tension relaxing, or the session may occur in silence.  It depends on each individual client and what you desire from the session and how the session unfolds in the moment.

How is acupressure and acupuncture different or similar?

Acupressure uses finger pressure instead of needles as in acupuncture, however they both work with the same acupoints and meridians.  The particular type of acupressure I work with is based upon both Eight Principles and Five Elements within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), as well as Japanese acupoint theory, and body awareness approaches.  Another important difference with an acupressure session is that I am present with the client during the entire session. This means a session is dynamic – shifting direction based on what your body is telling us.

Can your work help ________ [fill in the issue or condition]?

As described on the Services page, acupressure and other healing modalities I utilize can be helpful for a wide variety of conditions.

I am currently working with a physician, physical therapist, or other health care provider,

how can acupressure and massage support their work?

People seeking health care as well as health care providers are realizing more often that an integrative approach to health provides the best results.  For example, acupressure and massage can work well with chiropractic by focusing on releasing tension in the soft tissue allowing for more effective adjustments within the joints and spine.  Another example is as an adjunct to cancer treatment.  By relieving stress and tension in the body, the body’s immune system can function better, there can be improved digestion, lower blood pressure, and other benefits.

How is the particular type of acupressure you use different from other types of acupressure?

During a session I hold a series of acupoints, typically holding each pair of points for at least a couple of minutes.  Whereas some other forms of acupressure based bodywork, such as shiatsu tend to move more rapidly through various points.  Additionally, the type of acupressure I provide has a strong body-mind focus, which is often incorporated into a session.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check, or credit card.  I am currently not billing insurance directly, however I can provide you with an invoice that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.
